The Turner Family tradition is to provide our customers with quality jewelry of lasting value. It began when Dean Turner moved his family from Cuyahoga Falls to Coshocton in 1956 to manage a local jewelry store. Having fallen in love with Coshocton, ten years later he purchased his own store, Dean's Jewelry.
Dean's son, Tim Turner, joined the store in 1968 after attending Gem City College in Quincy, IL. While there, Tim studied goldsmithing and stone setting. In the beginning, Tim did the repair work for the family's store as well as nine others throughout the midwest. He assumed management responsibilities a few years later.
Dean owed much of his success to the fact that he was active in the community and that he was a colorful character who was well-liked in his new hometown. He embraced the opportunity to serve people in all income brackets, espousing the idea that it was important to provide quality jewelry options to everyone a philosophy that remains a cornerstone of the operation to this day.
In 1991, Dean retired to Florida and Tim became the sole owner. Through the years, Dean’s Jewelry has grown based on Tim’s unwavering focus on customer service, rooted in the commitment to be a pleasure to do business with from any side of every transaction. Those values are instilled in Tim’s long-term employees, like Sue Oswald, who has been with the company for 20 years. She is GIA diamond graduate and has traveled to Antwerp with Tim. She has been the company’s operations manager for 12 years, and a buyer for 15 years.
Tim's oldest daughter Michelle actually began working for her Grandpa Dean when she was only 14 years old. She recently resigned her position with a Columbus Financial investing firm to rejoin her brothers and sister in the family business, and has since earned a degree from the Gemological Institute of America in Diamonds. Her younger sister Kristy also worked in the store as a teenager, and has helped her father run the store since 1998. Kristy is a Graduate Jewelry Gemologist and has also completed courses in Jewelry Design and Insurance Replacement Appraisal from the Gemological Institute of America. Once she graduated from GIA, she was hired by them as a Home Study instructor in Diamond Grading and Gem Identification for 2 years before returning to Coshocton and the family business. Son Noah is a 2004 graduate of Bowling Green State University with a bachelors degree in interpersonal communications and has been active in the jewelry business ever since. He is also a GIA Diamond graduate. Youngest son Luke is also a Graduate Jeweler from GIA, and has been doing the store's bench work ever since 2003.
Even as Tim takes great pride in grooming the next generation to carry on the family tradition, he is relentless in his work ethic, setting the standard for hometown jewelers throughout the Midwest. Tim routinely travels to Antwerp, Belgium to hand select diamonds for customers. He has toured gold mines across the African continent, also traveling to Brazil to bring home amazing colored stones, which, in turn, he has mounted into pendants, rings, earrings, and any number of custom pieces through the years.
Dean’s Jewelry is synonymous with unmatched quality and exceptional value, a third generation tradition that is here for Coshocton…yesterday, today, and always.
